  • 2501 Manhattan AvenueBaltimore, MD, 21215United States (map)

Description:
Joining together during the season activates the purpose of that time of year. We listen for nature's lead and savor sharing stories with each other.

In Chinese medicine, Autumn relates to the metal element and is about balance. In nature, leaves flutter from trees, letting go. Grief is natural. The air is clear and brisk inviting us to receive inspiration and see with fresh eyes. How perfect for this challenging moment in our world. To align with the element and season is to be supported by nature’s rhythm.
Join me to:

  • Hear about the Five Elements focused on Metal and Autumn

  • Share how we find balance in an ever changing world

  • Write in response to brief prompts; share with each other.

In these seasonal gatherings we use writing as a tool to access these memories, both recent and long ago. It's  like sitting around a fire sharing stories that enliven each other.

Late Summer is a distinct season in Chinese medicine, associated with the Earth Element. Often called "Indian Summer" it is the time in late August and September when much is ripe and ready for harvest. We will resonate with that outer season and how it manifests in our lives. In this very intense time in the world, reaping the inner harvest helps in discerning the focus for times ahead. Join me as we explore these resonances.

"I stuck my head out the window this morning and spring  kissed me bang in the face."
                                              Langston Hughes

Remember that feeling? Here we are!
Simple writing prompts drop us into memories of spring and help us resonate with the present. In Chinese medicine, spring is about rebirth and activation.  Each season/element has an emotion associated with it. In spring it is anger. The thrust of plants pushing through the soil and nature's activation can be like anger. The key is to transform that into action. Learn more at this early May workshop.

The Call To Elders in Our Time

Coming of Age as Elders:
Exploring the Call to Elders in These Times
A Three-Hour-Workshop
Sunday April 6, 2025, 1:30-4:30pm

Right now, in 2025 the earth is shifting under our feet. Things we take for granted are at risk and crumbling. These times are challenging. It may be easy to say to leave it to the youth. However we are here for some reasons. Let’s explore together what this means for elders in these times. We can draw on practices and tools that help us keep moving. And we can benefit from hearing each other’s stories and insights. Connection and community are even more vital now than ever. Let’s weave a tapestry together and discover how we might each do our own work while walking beside others for support and love. And just maybe we may find ourselves with some belly-laugh humor!

In recalling an incident, from decades ago, I cringe. What made me do that? What does it mean now? I feel compassion, even affection for my younger self. Yet I also want to piece together the disparate parts of my life.

What are we doing here as elders? And how might we feel good about making it to the later decades of life. According to CG Jung, the later decades are important, a time to integrate and harvest experiences of all kinds before taking our leave. We are still here. How to mine the richness and make a difference in the process.
